The festive period is all about balance. Here are our top tips to survive, enjoy and embrace it!

Be Realistic.
Remember it is Christmas, time to relax and enjoy being with those close to you. So factor in some rest time and a few indulgences here and there but overall remember your long term goals.

Earn your exercise credits.
Think of every session between now and Xmas as a chance to earn some silly season credits. Don’t let midweek work functions and dinners be the reason you reach for the snooze button. Commit to your training for the rest of the year and allow yourself a break over Xmas and New Year to recharge.

Taper and Plan Your Meals.
Use your diary to highlight days that will include parties or dinners out and compensate in the day or two leading up them by actively reducing your treats and be careful with your food choices, make them as healthy as possible. Remember the 80:20 rule and make smart choices wherever possible.

Munch in Moderation.
Enjoy your food but don’t overdo the portion sizes. Be mindful of what and how much you are eating. Don’t get caught up in the binge mentality and maintaining a level of awareness will help keep your food intake in check.

Beware the Booze.
Alcohol is high in kJs - while it's true that the kilojoules are burned straight away, this makes it even more likely that those fatty finger foods and bar snacks you eat with your drinks will turn into body fat. Alcohol can make you careless about what you're eating, not to mention the cravings for greasy breakfasts after a big night, and increased chance of skipping training sessions

A little bit of poison...
A little bit of poison is good for you! Allow some indulgences, relax a little and have some treats. Factor them in so that you don’t resent the situation and you will be far more likely to last the distance and stay in control.
