Guest Blogger, Rose Bay Evolutionary and Wellness Coach Cam Gerrie shares his tips on how focusing on the ‘Little Things’ bring about change to the Big things we want to achieve in our lives.

Working towards a goal needs Steps and some of those are BIG.

That’s the way to create change that launches you into a new world of experience whether that be in fitness, finance, health or pretty much any personal development. It’s a mental diet that increases your good uptake of positive pattern reinforcement.

We all have different goals which is what makes us unique and different.

This week, after a few discussions with my members, I helped them find a few things that are little in regards to the lofty goals that they had wisely set themselves but are essentially the most important steps, because they are what we can focus on every single day.

The Little Things…

(that are really Big)

1-TURNING UP to your intended sessions (No Excuses)

Once you get to the park then you are already on the path to setting a pattern. Some days just getting there is a personal best and as long as you give your best on the day then that is all that can be asked. It may not be as many pushups as yesterday but if you feel pushed then you are creating a pattern.

2-You LISTEN to the cues and instructions

This is about being present.

Without this you are liable to fall to wayward thoughts like breakfast, work, annoying people, bills, shopping, the weekend etc .

Honestly the only thing that is going to get you healthier is you and focus.

Don’t invite unrelated energy and attention consuming thoughts down as if they have any say in how you are going to get fit. They don’t. In My Yoga practice I am constantly adjusting my mind to focus on the practice - its tough but no amount of worrying about bills is going to get me up into a handstand.

3-You SELF CORRECT

This one comes with time and repetition. At first you have to listen to the prompts that your trainer gives. Obviously to do this you would have had to Turn Up (1) and To Listen To the Instructions (2).

In my mind- "If YOU are self correcting then half my job is done"

The mind and body doing something instinctively gives it the ability to step to the next level.

4- You COMMUNICATE YOUR NEEDS based on your awareness.

This has a bit to do with all the previous steps but essentially if you are doing the first steps then you will start to know what makes you work and what you can do for your body/mind to progress.

This week I had a few questions about breathing and particular muscle or joint issues that come about with training.

Open the conversation with your trainer and it allows them to provide you with even more focused prompts that you could use to go to the next level.

COMBINED, this then becomes a progressive movement towards a healthier you - as we refine your prompts and awareness and you continue turning up then positive pattern reinforcement takes place.

Whilst I talk of these steps in a fitness context they apply to all goals that you want to achieve. So once you set them....

1-Turn Up - Action

2-Listen to what’s going on - Be Present

3-Be Aware - Learning

4-Communicate - take the awareness and learning and roll back into step 1

Repeat

Repeat

Repeat.
