“A reason is valid and usually unavoidable. An excuse is a transparent attempt to shift blame away from one's self.”
Ask yourself this Silly Season… "Is this reason valid and could I have avoided it?"
When you wake up and are about to hit the snooze button check in with your intended goals for the week and ask yourself have I just come up with a transparent /lame excuse to shift blame.
Before you get caught up in the midst of the silliness, come up with all the possible excuses that may stand in your way of looking your hottest, feeling your fittest and finishing the year in your BEST FORM POSSIBLE !
Some Excuses we’ve come up with (that can be mistaken for a reason) -
- Work functions
- Everyone wants a piece of me
- Family commitments
- Visitors
- Late nights at work/deadlines
- Uni/exams
- Hangover
Putting a plan into place
1. Put a limit on your nights out per week- 1 or 2 nights out
2. Remind yourself what your goal is and diarise your weeks plan
3. Understand and execute balance- between work, social, physical, rest
4. Setting your plan at the start of the week. Make the commitment to stick to your word NO MATTER WHAT and ask yourself at the end of the week- “Have I done everything in your right mind make it happen”?- If there was a million $ carrot dangling over your head how would you make it happen?
5. Set your mind to it BEFORE the event/ or before you go to bed- Before you head to bed don’t even entertain the idea of “maybe having a sleep in tomorrow”- Alarm is set, your will get up and no matter what you’ll make your way to training.
6. Choose the social event with the most amount of your friends in one space. Exercise restraint!!! Make the choice not to drink excessively.
An excuse merely sends a message that you’re not committed to a goal.
We have all had excuses in our lives. They are the reasons that we have allowed to carry on until we are sure that it is an outside influence that is stopping us from reaching our goals. As I was writing this blog I picked a Habit Card out of a deck… the pictures above eerily highlight exactly what my message is.
The Silly Season will come and go, You’re in charge. Will you ‘manage’ your health by sticking to your commitments or will you let the excuses run rife?
