The snooze button is tempting for all of us but by changing your morning routine to incorporate rituals that stick every single day, finding the motivation to get out of bed will suddenly be simplified (a little hint… your rituals to make your morning successful may start the night before).

For those of you who train regularly, only miss a session when you’re on your death bed and are constantly challenging your trainers to come up with newer, harder sessions, then this may seem like an obvious thing in your life. BUT if you still grapple on a daily basis with the snooze button and the 5am excuses are raging through your head trying to justify why it is ok to stay there then perhaps you should have a read on...

Most people these days have 1 or 2 (or 10) bloggers that they follow for new knowledge, inspiration and ideas. There are so many great articles out there that it can sometimes seem overwhelming to just keep up with those that you like. Rather than reinventing the wheel this week I wanted to share a great article that was sent to me about creating ritual and habit in your lives. James Clear writes about changing habits to make your life healthier and in this particular article refers to acclaimed Ballerina and Choreographer Twyla Tharp, how she views her morning ritual and what we can learn from her.

Think about your regular morning routine. Do you have rituals that you perhaps hadn’t even realized were rituals? It may seem silly but it is important to recognize, acknowledge and maximize the positive impact they have on your ability to regularly get up, train and lead a healthier daily existence.

Your trainer doesn’t just magically have superhuman powers that ensure they are there waiting for you EVERY day, without fail. Each and every one of us have our own set of rituals that get us out of bed, focused and ready to provide you with an awesome session. It only comes through practice and persistence. The fantastic point James Clear makes about motivation is that “it often comes about as a result of starting a new behavior, not before”.

Have a read of James Clear's article and think about what you can change in your morning ritual to make it IMPOSSIBLE for you to skip training. Perhaps you want to try a few weeks of 4-5 sessions a week to cement those rituals into your day to day living.
